Dennis J. Reiter, D.O.

Dr. Dennis Reiter has been providing exceptional eye care for over 20 years! Dr. Reiter earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and his ophthalmology degree from Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel. He also completed fellowship training in oculoplastics and cosmetic lid surgery from Hadassah University Hospital and Tallmadge Eye Institute in Tallmadge, Ohio. Dr. Reiter is Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and specializes in Toric and ReStor cataract implant surgery, cosmetic and functional eyelid surgery and ophthalmic plastics. He maintains memberships in the American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association, Texas Ophthalmology Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, just to name a few. Shanna Brown, MD

Shanna J. Brown, M.D., is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist focusing on state of the art cataract surgery, refractive surgery, treatment of glaucoma, and management of diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. She was raised, along with her brother, near San Antonio, Texas by two wonderful parents both retired from the military. She attended college at Prairie View A & M University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology in 2001. Dr. Brown attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio and obtained her M.D. degree in 2008. She then went on to complete her internship at The University of Texas at San Antonio and then residency in Ophthalmology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Brown truly enjoys serving her patients and treating them just like family. Her bedside manner is calming and informative as she goes the extra mile in explaining medical issues. Dr. Brown enjoys family time with her husband and two children as well as reading, arts and crafts, and cooking.

Massala Reffell, OD

Dr. Reffell moved to El Paso in 2018 to join our growing office. He is a graduate of The Ohio State College of Optometry and holds licenses in Texas, Ohio and New York. He has practiced in Columbus Ohio, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, New York and now El Paso. Dr. Reffell has worked in eye care for over ten years to help patients prepare for surgery and taking care of their needs after surgery. He has done before and after care for cataract, LASIK and corneal transplant surgery. He has managed diabetic, glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eye patients. He has fit and managed glasses and contact lenses including specialty fits for keratoconus patients and high astigmatism He has even worked doing nursing home eye care taking care of the elderly and very sick using specialized handheld equipment to provide for their eye care needs.

Working in these various cities and types of healthcare allowed Dr. Reffell to have many challenging experiences that have grown his character, his abilities, and helped shape change him spiritually and humbled him. He knows that what he does has the ability to effect change in people’s lives and destinies and does not take the opportunity to serve his community lightly. President Hubert Humphrey said “The moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped.”

SAMUEL FAVELA, OD

Samuel Favela completed his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Texas at El Paso. He attended and received his Optometry degree from the University of Houston, College of Optometry, Houston, Texas. He completed rotations through The Indian Health Service Hospital in Shiprock, New Mexico, and William Beaumont Army Medical Hospital in El Paso, Texas.

Dr. Favela is an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist with over 25 years of experience; specializing in ocular disease and pathology. His professional interests include post-operative cataract surgery care, glaucoma co-management, and dry eye disease treatment.

Dr. Favela serves as our Managing physician for Vision Associates of El Paso offices located on George Dieter and Dyer.
