Eyelid Cancer and Eyelid Reconstruction

There are many known forms of cancer, but a common form of skin cancer, especially in the desert southwest, is Basal Cell Carcinoma.  Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and other skin lesions can present as sudden onset, slow growth, and should be closely monitored by your physician.  Symptoms of suspicious growths can be but are not limited to discharge, pain, irritation, change in color, and change in size. In most cases, determining the nature of growths start with an initial biopsy.  In cases of proven malignancy, it may be necessary to excise (remove) the entire lesion, which could be much larger in nature than appearance.

Dennis J. Reiter, DO, fellowship trained Oculoplastic Surgeon, has a thorough understanding of the eye and the structures surrounding the eye. The surgery required to remove lesions or cancers involving the eyelid can be very complex and involve the use of skin grafts to reconstruct the eyelid.

The first step in treating Basal Cell Carcinoma or Squamous Cell Carcinoma is to schedule an appointment for evaluation by Dr. Dennis Reiter at Visione 360, at which point Dr. Reiter will discuss treatment options with each individual patient.
