Chemical Peels

What is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical Peels are minimally invasive treatments that remove the outer layer of damaged skin, with an FDA approved acid solution. Peels help improve the appearance of scars, pigment, pore size, and texture. Most of our peels treat the superficial layers which will result in little to no downtime with. How is Dermaplaning Incorporated?

Dermaplaning is the process of exfoliating the outer layer of skin by gently removing damaged skin cells with fine blade. This mild exfoliation is done before most chemical peels offered by the Aestheticians at Visione 360, to prep the skin and help with product penetration, allowing for optimal results. Dermaplaning is also a great stand alone treatment, especially for patients with sensitive skin.

Q: How do chemical peels improve the skin?
A: Chemical peeling is a procedure that aims to accelerate skin exfoliation by the use of chemical substances resulting in renewed, healthier looking skin and more uniform complexion.

Q: How can I protect my skin post peel?
A: Since new skin is more susceptible to sunburn, extra precautions should be taken to limit sun exposure for at least one week after the peel. Using a broad spectrum sunscreen product with an SPF 30 or higher is recommended.

Q: Who can benefit from SkinMedica® Peels?
A: SkinMedica® Peels address the visible skin imperfections that result from skin aging and sun exposure, such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture. Peels also address skin tone unevenness that can be caused by acne scarring or pigmentary changes. SkinMedica® offers a range of different strength chemical peels that licensed medical professionals can select to provide the optimum treatment for their patients.

Q. What is the mechanism of skin rejuvenation from a Chemical Peel?
A. Chemical peels produce a partial thickness injury to the skin, the depth of which is determined by the chemical agents. Following the trauma to the skin, the wound healing process creates new skin and connective tissue. Collagen remodeling is the main reason chemical peels decrease sun damage and reduce wrinkles. Dermal regeneration can take weeks to months. The epidermis, however, heals in a few days giving the skin an improved appearance, more even skin color, smoother texture and a healthier glow.

Q. How long will the effects of the chemical peel last?
A. Aging of the skin is a chronic natural phenomenon. A single peel can reverse some of the clinical and histological signs of aging, but once the skin has healed from the peel, the aging process starts again. Therefore, a daily program of specifically designed products that reverse the signs of aging is necessary to maintain long-term improvement.

Q. Is it safe to have these Peels on a regular basis?
A. Yes. Generally multiple treatments are required to achieve desired results. Subsequent peels may be repeated every 3 to 4 weeks. There is no limit to the number of peels a person can receive as long as improvement continues. The effect is cumulative.

Q. How long after receiving a peel can one be exposed to the sun?
A. Sun avoidance during the recovery period is critical. After the peeling is complete, one can resume regular activities, but daily use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) is imperative for maintaining healthy skin.

Q. What results should I expect?
A. Realistic expectations are:
Corrects sun damaged skin, smoothens fine wrinkles, reduces mild scarring, improves irregular   discoloration, smoothens rough texture, and improves acne.

A. Unrealistic expectations include:
Cannot remove or reduce broken blood vessels, cannot correct deep wrinkles.  It is also impossible to truly change pore diameter, however, after the procedure, the pores appear less pronounced.
