Forehead and Brow Lift Surgery

A forehead lift or eyebrow lift is a surgical procedure used to lift the eyebrows and decrease the signs of aging to the forehead. Signs of aging related to the forehead or eyebrows can be deep lines and wrinkles, eyebrows that are below the supraorbital ridge, resulting in a tired look, or droopy eyelid appearance. The road to improving your appearance begins with your consultation with Dr. Reiter. Please be sure to disclose all of your medical history past and current to allow Dr. Reiter the ability to make an informed decision regarding your care. There are several techniques used to accomplish a forehead/brow lift, and at Visione 360 one technique Dr. Reiter uses is a coronal brow approach. This approach is done by making an incision in the hair from ear to ear.  Once the incision is made, the physician will release connective tissue and raise the skin of the forehead. Once the physician determines how much excessive skin to remove, he will remove and suture the incision to create a more youthful forehead appearance and brow lift.

1. Will I lose my hair where the incision is made?
Hair loss along the incision line is a common side effect of this procedure, however the physician will attempt to hide the incision line and limit the appearance of scarring or hair loss.

2. What is the difference between a face lift and a brow lift?
A traditional facelift focuses on the midface and cheek ryhtids (wrinkles) and jawline, and aims to tighten the skin in these areas to provide a younger looking, sleeker mid face and jaw line, with little to no effect above the eyes.  A forehead or brow lift focuses above the eyebrows, smoothing out wrinkles, with little to no effect on the mid and lower face.

3. What are alternatives to a forehead lift?
While surgery is the best option for immediate and long lasting correction, there are a number of proven alternatives to a full forehead lift. Botox and facial fillers when injected appropriately, can also help to elevate the brows or give the appearance of reduced wrinkles in the forehead. Another great alternative offered at Visione 360, is Ultherapy, the only FDA approved procedure to lift and tighten the skin. Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology to stimulate new collagen and connective tissue above the eyebrows, resulting in lifting of the eyebrows. Please see our Ultherapy page for more information, or schedule your consultation today.

4. What type of anesthesia is used for a forehead/brow lift at Visione 360?
This type of surgery is typically done in an accredited outpatient surgical facility. In most circumstances, this surgery is done under general anesthesia, monitored by an Anesthesiologist or Nurse Anesthetist. If you have had any complications from anesthesia in the past, it is important to let the physicians and operative team know prior to your surgery.

5. What is the downtime following a forehead/brow lift?
Typical downtime of a forehead/brow lift can be 3-4 weeks following the procedure. The first few days may be accompanied by pain, discomfort, tightness, and unsightly appearance of the hair. Dr. Reiter will evaluate all surgical patients 1 day post operatively, and normally every 7 days thereafter for the first 3 weeks. It is important to comply with all of the physicians orders and request follow up appointments. Each patient is unique and treated based on the needs of the patient.
